Ffrench - I have ancestors named PIGEON from about 1520 to the early
1700s, in Worcester.
Richard PIGEON born circa 1520
Thomas PIGEON the elder, baptised 6 Oct 1560 at Badsey, Worcs
John PIGEON, baptised 16 Aug 1608 at Badsey, Worcs, married Jane who was
buried in 1680
Thomas PIGEON jnr (1647-1696) from Badsey, Worc
Jane PIGEON, baptised 16 May 1674 at Badsey, married Thomas COTTERILL 8 Jul
1704 at Evesham, All Saints, Worcs.
Pigeon COTTERILL, baptised Feb 1710/1 at St Mary's, Hanley Castle nr Malvern
Hill, Worcs, yeoman, married Elizabeth WILKINS on 11 Jun 1745 at St
Oswald's, Claines, Worsc. Their son, Nathaniel COTTERILL, was born in 1750
at Himbleton, Worcs.
Harris - My grandparents were born and married in Colaton Raleigh,
Devon, and my cousin Basil
Pidgeon and I have been collating various trees for the PIDGEON families
of Devon. The earliest PIDGEON we have for our own family is James
PIDGEON baptised 20th May 1705 at Cotleigh, Devon who was the son
of Henry and Patience [SEARLE] PIDGEON. No marriage has been found for Henry
but there was a marriage licence dated 13 Jan 1685/6. Henry was "of
Monkton" at the time they applied for the marriage licence.
For anyone having Devonian PIDGEONs we have many trees. If you want to
know more please contact Basil at email@example.com
or myself at firstname.lastname@example.org
These are the Devon PIDGEON trees we have so far:
PIDGEON of Axminster (two trees-earliest
PIDGEON of Branscombe (from 1733)
PIDGEON of Cullompton (from 1748)
PIDGEON of Exmouth (from 1847 - starts with a William
PIDGEON, servant, born in Ireland - ?Co. Kildare)
PIDGEON of Honiton (from 1759)
PIDGEON of Kenton (from 1780)
PIDGEON of Sidbury (four trees-earliest
PIDGEON of Sidmouth (three trees-earliest from 1773)
PIDGEON of Stockland (three trees-earliest from 1740)
PIDGEON of Tiverton (from 1788)
PIDGEON of Tormoham (Torquay) (from 1794)
Pidgeon Clezie - I have traced the surname back to an ISAAC PIDGEON in
the 1700s in Pennsylvania. The ONLY thing I have been able to connect
him to another country is a document from his church that states he received
a message from his father who lived in Ireland. Unfortunately, there
was no mention of the father's name. The Pidgeons on my Dad's side
were all Quakers and Quakers kept really good records. My grandfather,
PAUL KESTER PIDGEON, always told me that there were three brothers who
settled in North America: Two came to the east and settled there and
the other one went to Canada. The one who went to Canada is the ancestor of
WALTER PIDGEON, the classic movie actor. (The Research Network and Idaho
Stormer (Email address no longer valid) - I do not have a birth date for ISAAC in England -- only 1783
as his death date in North Carolina. This information was taken from
an internet file that I believe holds key information about my line. I
am attaching a copy of some of the relationships of people for the five
generations born prior to 1900 in my file. The names of people that my
father talked about are included, but only part of this is substantiated by
more than one source.
ISAAC PIDGEON & Sarah MILLHOUSE
CHARLES PIDGEON & Elizabeth CREW
DAVID PIDGEON & Rachel WILSON
PIDGEON & Emeline HOWELL
H.J. PIDGEON & Mary HUDSON
I am also including a copy
of p.336 from the Encyclopaedia of Quaker History, for the South River
Monthly Meeting, which mentions what appear to be several Isaac Pidgeons in
the area in the 1760 - 1812 period. It may be useful to someone else
who is further along in their research than I am. It is a little
confusing since the events are not in strict chronological order. But,
at least, they are together on one page.
Dickieson - I am a PIDGEON by birth and live in Prince Edward Island,
Canada researching my paternal side of the family. Have gotten
back as far as GEORGE PIDGEON, not sure when he was born sometime in the
1700's. Right now I am as far back as the birth of my g x 6
grandfather, EDWARD PEDGEON on January 1, 1778. He was born in
Yarmouth, England, died on September 10, 1843 in New London, PEI, Canada.
He married a MARY MONTGOMERY born 1789 in Malpeque, PEI, Canada, about 1810.
They had the following children:
- ARCHIBALD - Mar 17/1829 - Aug 19/1919
- DANIEL - About1831 - Mar 19/1889
- HUGH - About 1837 - no death date on him
- DAVID - About 1839, no death date on him
- CHRISTIAN - About 1841, no death date on him
- JOHN - About 1843, no death date on him
- MARY - About 1845, no death date on her
- JAMES - About 1847, no death date on him
Showers - I am the 5x granddaughter, of SARAH PIDGEON, born 17, June,
1734 at Cotleigh, Devon, and married to Joseph DIMOND, 27,September, also at
My 4x-great-grandparents, John Pidgeon & Ann Bower were
married in 1748 in Cullompton, Devon, England. John was the first of 5
generations of John Pidgeons who were corn millers in Cullompton, though the
last of the line may have emigrated via New Zealand to California.
John & Ann had several children, one of which was
Henry who travelled to Stockport, Cheshire where he married a widow Ann
Basketfield (or Baskervyle?) in 1792. These were my
3x-great-grandparents, who had three sons John (1798-?), William (1803-1882,
my 2x-great-grandfather), Joseph
(1806-1873) and a daughter Martha (1809-?) who married John Cooper.
They and their descendents lived mostly in the Stockport area.
Other descendants of John & Ann either continued to
live in Cullompton, or emigrated to the USA. A 2x-great-granddaughter
Ann married William Honey Cann in 1869; they settled in Oil City, PA
and sired the Cann, Blum and Martz families (to which Linda
Blum-Barton belongs). Two brothers of Ann Pidgeon Cann also
emigrated with their English brides and settled in Rochester, NY.

SARAH PIDGEON b January 24, 1792in Guilford County, North Carolina
Need information on them.
Fisher McClure - My Pidgeon line is rather small as far as my knowledge
goes so I would be delighted to learn more. It has primarily come from
Hinshaw's Quaker records. I am descended from HANNAH PIDGEON b. 20th day
11th month 1774 to WILLIAM and RACHEL EVERETT PIDGEON, both Quakers. WILLIAM
was the son of CHARLES PIDGEON. HANNAH married Joseph B. FISHER.
Nathaniel Pidgeon - RICHARD PIDGEON (b 1779 Wicklow Town, Parish of
Macombe, Co. Wicklow) and Elizabeth
FOLEY (b 1769 Ballydicken, Co. Wexford) were married at Castlebridge, Co.
Wexford, Ireland on November 14, 1802. RICHARD and his brother HENRY
(b 1774 Wicklow Town, Parish of Macombe, Co. Wicklow) had moved to County Wexford just prior to the rebellion
of 1798 and served in George OGLE's Loyal (Bloody) Blues during and after
the rebellion. Henry went on to serve as a Sergeant in the 9th Lancers
on the Continent during the early 1800s, returning to Ireland where he died
of wounds c 1810. RICHARD and ELIZABETH had 4 children - NATHANIEL b
1803 who married Eliza PROUD of Enniscorthy in 1839; ELIZABETH b 1809 who
married Thomas MULLEN of Wexford c 1835; PHOEBE b 1811 who married Isaac

Atherton - I am the gt gt grandson of Samuel PIDGEON (ca 1799-1862)
(brickmaker and innkeeper) and Mary PHILLIPS (1806-59) who married in
Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, England in 1825 and moved to Birmingham,
England ca 1835. I descend from Selina who was the 9th of their 12
children. She married Benjamin PEARSON and their son Ralph Sydney
PEARSON was my grandfather. The 4th child Enos
(1832-1905) who arrived in Victoria, Australia in March 1858 on the
"Tornado", married his child bride Elizabeth
JENKINSON (1848-1911) in 1864. They had 13 children and founded a
huge dynasty which includes several subscribers to this list (two of whom I
did not know before).
Samuel PIDGEON was not born in Winchcombe. The 1851 and 1861 census
returns in Birmingham say he was born in Wellington, Salop. Salop is
the old name for Shropshire by the way (a matter of great confusion to
Australian and American relatives). I have yet to find his baptism.
Although a long way, it is not hard to believe that a Winchcombe man might
travel to Wellington area in the late 18C using the River Severn navigation
to seek work in the iron industry and associated trades. It seems
unlikely that a Salop man would go the other way to rural Winchcombe unless
he had roots there. So I think it likely that Samuel was the son or
nephew of another Samuel PIDGEON in Winchcombe (1773-1849). This man
did not marry until 1813 but Samuel could well be his illegitimate son.
I think it more likely however that my Samuel is the son of John, born 1762,
but other than a brief mention in an 1804 PIDGEON will in Winchcombe, I have
never been able to find out where he spent his life - in Salop perhaps!
I am still working on this. So although I may well be descended from
Edward PIDGEON of Wc (1706-84) via his son Samuel (1728-1804) through his
son John (or Samuel), it is not proven. PIDGEON is quite a widespread
name and there are plenty of them in Salop.
Samuel and Mary's eldest child Sarah married Joseph GETLEY in Birmingham.
He was born in Wrockwardine Wood which is near Wellington, and it is
possible that there are clues here.
The next child Matilda married Thomas
VOIL and moved to Liverpool. They are ancestors of Nita
The 3rd child James took over the business when his father died. He
married Mary Berril WALKER and had 10 children in Birmingham. I do not
know what happened to any of them.
Then came Enos, and then Amelia who married Nathaniel Jones PUGH and had
several children, whose fates I do not know.
The 6th child was Samuel who was accidentally burnt to death in 1854
Then came John and Edward who I can't find in the UK 1881 census but I know
they were alive as Enos mentions them in a letter in 1895. I know
nothing of their fate.
Then Selina my gt grandmother (1843-1910).
Then Bithiah (1846-1917) who married a prosperous leather manufacturer Henry
POPPLETON of Walsall and left a large dynasty.
Next Charles who married Julia LAWRENCE. They had no children.
Finally and 12th, Mary Ann (Polly) who remained a spinster and lived
with her sister Bithiah.
I have been researching the PIDGEON family since 1965 and have reams of
information on them. I see my main task as solving the mystery of
Samuel's parentage. But I am also keen to contact any "new"
Hill - My Pidgeons are somewhat of a mystery but seem to be located in the
Bow, Poplar/Limehouse areas of MDX. There is also some connection to
Great Yarmouth in NFK, but I haven't been able to place it, yet! We
have a freedom of the city (Great Yarmouth) for a NICHOLAS PIGEON dated 1806
but this must be the father/grandfather of NICHOLAS in Bow that starts of my
tree. (Web site - www.ak.planet.gen.nz/~rnrhill/)
Theresa McCombe - I have a small tree of 43 people that connects into my
family. Starts with PETER PIDGEON and Maria ROGERS, born early 1800's, and
their son, PATRICK, born abt. 1835, and continues through to today. I
have contacts for one of the present day families in Australia.
Hester - I have a John PIDGEON married to a Anna Maria READING. Children
from this mariage -
MARIA MATILDA b 1830 Chelsea Middlesex
MARY ANN b 1834 Chelsea Middlesex
RICHARD JOHN b 1838 Chelsea Middlesex.
John PIDGEON d 1845, Anna and her children then came out to Australia and
settled around the Geelong Vic area.
Anna remarried to a Thomas MOWBRAY.
Maria also known as Maud married 1st William DOYLE 2nd George COOK.
Mary Ann married John James STANBURY.
Richard John married 1st Mary REID 2nd Mary Jane DONNNELLY.
Love to hear from anyone with connections to the above.
Check out our web page for our research and local interests
Jones - My Pidgeon was born in Wynchcombe,
MATILDA PIDGEON, born 1828 (from IGI - not
proved by me). Her father was Samuel (shown on her marriage cert) and
I can't make out the occupation looks like it begins with a B and ends with
'maker'. She lived in Birmingham at the time of her marriage in 1850
to Thomas VOILE who made his home in Edgebaston.
His birth home was Alcester and he shows up there for several years.
In the 1851 census they were in Tonk Street, Birmingham, and shortly
thereafter moved to Liverpool where he became a policeman until he retired
in the early 1890's.
Kerins Pierce - My Pidgeons came from came from Ireland and were in the
U.S. in the state of Pennsylvania by the late 1830's and early 40's. My
Great Great Grandmother, MARY PIDGEON had brothers, HENRY, JOHN and JAMES
and sisters BRIDGET and CATHERINE. They were listed as sponsors in their
baptism records, so I assume they all remained here in the states.
Howells - My DANIEL PIDGEON is still a problem. He was listed on the
1881 census living in Venns Pit, Somerset with his wife and children
including my g.g.grandfather FRANK PIDGEON. He was listed as being
born in Thorncombe, Dorset around 1836. I searched the 1851 census but
he has vanished. I have been looking for him for around 6 months now.
I had a few leads but they don't seem to be going very far at the moment.
